The Milky Way’s neighboring galaxy.
I have glass slides from Lowell observatory of this galaxy, they are like my favorite thing I own

Hundreds of pictures of Earth, each taken at about 6AM , show the terminator - the day/night line - over the course of one year (2010sep-2011sep).
Taken by METEOSAT-9 Earth-observing satellite.
Credit: NASA Earth ObservatoryIt’s funny how I’d never have the balls to be an astronaut, but I’d kill to see earth from space.
This is so awesome

Eclipse
An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscured, either by passing into the shadow of another body or by having another body pass between it and the viewer. An eclipse is a type of syzygy
1. Totality during the 1999 solar eclipse. Solar prominences can be seen along the limb (in red) as well as extensive coronal filaments.
2. The progression of a lunar eclipse. Totality is shown with the last two images to lower right. These required a longer exposure time to make the details visible.
3. The June 2011 total eclipse
4. Partial and annular phases of solar Eclipse May 20,2012

M94
Distance: 5,000,000 Light Years
On visual inspection M94 appears to be a series of ring like structures. As one of the closest starburst-ringed galaxies it possesses one of the highest optical surface brightness nuclei known.
At its center is a 1400 light year stellar bar which has been an important influence on the overall morphology of the galaxy. Surrounding the central bar is an inner stellar disk with a radius of about 2300 light years. Further out at a radius of about 3500 light years is an almost perfectly circular starburst ring.
